I have taught music for in excess of twenty years and achieved distinction at Grade VIII Piano and Grade VIII Singing, Grade V Theory, and studied flute with Jacqueline du Pré’s sister, Hilary Finzi, and daughter of the composer Gerald Raphael Finzi. I was Junior and Senior Music Scholar at Downe House School, Newbury, Berkshire.
I continued my piano studies privately under Niel Immelman of the Royal College of Music & Senior ABRSM Board Examiner, and Harmony in the style of J S Bach under Ian Curror, Capelmeister of Royal Hospital Chelsea, London, and continue to study under him to this day.
Whilst living in London I was a fundraiser for a medical charity, MERLIN (Medical Emergency Relief International) and arranged a series of successful music-focused fund raising events with Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Whilst also in London, I sang as part of the semi-chorus for the London Philharmonic Choir and public performances included Handel’s Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall under the late Sir George Solti.
I have experience of teaching four part choirs, as well as teaching general musicianship to groups of children in the form of Music Workshops from the age of 5 upwards.
I give individual private tuition and music & singing workshops for children from my home in Aldbourne, near Marlborough, and prepare students for both ABRSM practical & theory examinations. I also tutor home educated children in a general musicanship course covering history, music periods and styles, the orchestra, theory, aural, rhythm, notation, aural transcription and much more. Each course is tailor made to the specific needs and requirements of the individual pupil.
I strive to keep abreast of latest developments and techniques in teaching, and regularly attend seminars and workshops for teachers throughout the UK in many aspects of piano teaching methods and approaches, including the ABRSM teachers' course, TME, (Teaching Music Effectively).
In May 2012 I embarked a life-long ambition to learn the violin.
